Women's Basketball Closes 2024 with 101-49 Win on Sunday

BALTIMORE-- The UMBC Women's Basketball team dominated visiting Bryn Athyn 101-49 to close out non-conference play on Sunday afternoon at the Peake.

It was the first time the Retrievers (7-5) broke 100 points since scoring 102 against UMES on November 15, 2009.


For the second time this, and in program history, six players recorded double-figures, led by Kenya Ramsey who had herself a day with a career-high 20 points, six rebounds, two assists, and two steals in twelve minutes coming off the bench. Alaina Williams recorded her first career double-double with 12 points and a career high 13 rebounds.

Jaden Walker contributed 13 points and three rebounds and Lauren Thompson added 13 points, while Jordon Lewis had 11 points, eight rebounds, and three assists. Jaliena Sanchez added 10 points in the effort


How it Happened:
  • Bryn Athyn scored first but Jaden Walker scored as the Retrievers went on a 7-0 run to take the lead for good.
  • UMBC led.by as much as 21-10, before a late run by the Lions cut it to 23-16 after one quarter
  • The game was 30-24 midway through the second, but the Retrievers pulled away thanks to a 10-0 run to end the half
  • Thompson hit three with nine seconds left and Carmen Yánez stole the inbounds and got a layup at the buzzer to make 46-28 UMBC.
  • Bryn Athyn opened the second half with a jumper but the Retrievers went on a 21-0 run to make it 67-30 UMBC.
  • At the end of the third, the Retrievers outscored the Lions 34-8, to take an 80-36 lead into the final frame.
  • The Lions opened the fourth quarter with a layup but the Retrievers went on a 12-0 run before Bryn Athyn made seven straight points, to make it 92-45 UMBC.
  • Both teams took advantage of free throw opportunities before Thompson made the last five points for the Retrievers to break 100 to end the game, 101-49. 

The Retrievers kick off conference play on Saturday Jan. 4 at 2 p.m. against Binghamton at the Peake.
