Davis Records First Career Double-Double on Sunday

BALTIMORE -- Talia Davis recorded 14 points and a career-high with ten rebounds for her first career double-double, and the UMBC Women's Basketball team trimmed a 16 point deficit down to 5 in the fourth, but couldn't complete the comeback as it dropped a 60-50 decision to visiting Manhattan on Sunday evening at the Peake.

Jaden Walker also tallied 14 points, while Jordon Lewis led all players with 15 points. 


How it Happened:
  • Jaliena Sanchez scored first with a layup at 8:21 and then Jordon Lewis followed up with one of her own for a 4-0 UMBC lead.
  • Lewis made the first three for the Retrievers with a Sanchez assist, but Manhattan responded with a 7-0 run to take a 10-9 lead.
  • Lewis responded with a layup with 0:33 left in the first quarter, to give UMBC an 11-10 lead after the first.
  • Manhattan made a three to open the second quarter, 13-11 Manhattan.
  • Manhattan took advantage of two free throws but the Retrievers went on a 4-0 run to tie it up at 15.
  • Manhattan responded with 9-0 run to go up 24-15 
  • The Jaspers ended the half with a 4-0 run to take a 30-19 lead into the break
  • Manhattan made a layup but Walker responded with one of her own to open the second half, 32-21 Manhattan.
  • The Jaspers went on a 5-0 run to take a game-high 16 point lead at 37-21
  • The Retrievers went on a 9-0 run after a three from Manhattan to end the third quarter, and go into the final frame trailing 42-35
  • Davis made it an 11-0 run with a layup to start the final quarter
  • However, Manhattan went on a 6-0 run, 48-37 Manhattan.
  • Lewis made a three to end the run but Manhattan made one right after to make it 51-40 Manhattan. 
  • Davis took advantage of a free-throw opportunity to cut the Manhattan lead 53-45 with 3:19 left in the game. 
  • Manhattan made a three with 2:10 left to increase the lead to 58-46
  • UMBC would no closer than 10 the rest of the way
The Retrievers hit the road for post-Thanksgiving tournament at Colgate. They face the host Raiders at 1 p.m. on Friday, and then will take on either Iona or Akron on Saturday.
