Bronx, N.Y. – UMBC cross country competed in its final tune-up meet before the America East Championships Friday at Van Cortlandt Park.
The 6,000-meter race saw the Retrievers placing top fifteen (327) against formidable Atlantic region competition. Sophomore
Lexi Tepper led the women's cross country squad crossing the finish line at 21:17.6, earning tenth and a new personal record. Tepper moved up to sixth all time in UMBC history for the women's 6k run.
Juniors
Lily Strelecki and
Lyna Beraich placed within the top 100, Strelecki finishing 67th (22:35.2) with Beraich not far behind at 76th (22:48.1). First year
Katie Schwaner continues an excellent freshman campaign, improving on her personal best of 23:28.4 at Lehigh's Paul Short Run with a time of 23:14.1 this Friday. The former America East rookie of the week moved up fourteen spots at the 3.9k mark with senior
Judy McLaughlin moving up nineteen spots herself in the second half of the race, running to personal record herself (23:48.1).
Katelyn Deal (23:37.2) and
Lydia Nelson (24:04.7) rounding out scoring for the Retrievers. Freshman
Liesl McMullen (24:10.2) and sophomore
Baylee Seabolt-Wilbanks (26:20.3) round out personal best's at five on the day for the women's cross country squad.
UMBC will next compete at the America East Championships, taking place at Vermont University in Burlington, Vt on Saturday, Nov. 2.
