Smithfield, R.I. -- The UMBC Volleyball team fought back from a 2-0 deficit to force a fifth set, but ultimately dropped a heartbreaker to host Bryant (27-25, 25-23, 14-25, 19-25, 15-13) on Sunday afternoon.
Hannah Dobbs led all players with 19 kills and added four blocks, while
Mia Bilusic had a 16 kill, 10 dig double-double. Bilusic also tallied three assists and three blocks.
The middles were dominant, as both
Abby Erickson and
Mila Ilieva had seven blocks. Ilieva had six kills and no errors (.545 hitting), while Erickson had eight kills on .429 hitting.
Aysia Miller had a match-best 20 digs, and
Molly Penn had eight digs and a kill in her collegiate debut.
Serin Maden had 24 assists, six digs and four aces, while
Izzy Ostvig had 22 assists, five kills, three digs and two blocks.
Helen Frankovich tallied eight kills and five blocks, while
Jada James had eight digs and two assists.
The Retrievers return to action on Wednesday when they host defending MEAC champion Coppin State at 6 p.m.
