Miller Records UMBC's First Triple-Double as Volleyball Defeats Fairfield

Fairfield, Conn. -- Aysia Miller recorded the first triple-double in program history as the UMBC Volleyball team defeated host Fairfield in four sets (26-24, 15-25, 25-19. 25-22) before a record-setting crowd of 1,715 fans to spoil the first ever volleyball match at the Stags new Leo D. Mahoney Arena.


Miller finished with 14 kills on .480 hitting, with 33 assists and 17 digs. Only Mia Bilusic (16 kills) finished with more kills in the match, while her 33 assists led all players. In addition to two blocks, Bilusic added 10 digs for her third double-double of the season for UMBC (3-2).

Kamani Conteh and freshman Julija Grubisic Cabo each added 14 kills, with Grubisic Cabo chipping in 10 digs for her first career double-double. It was a career-high in kills for Grubisic Cabo, whose classmate Hannah Howard recorded a career-best 23 digs and five assists.

Serin Maden added had 24 assists and six digs for the Retrievers, while Michela De Marzi added four kills and three blocks.

UMBC will open its home slate next weekend with three tough opponents: Princeton on Friday night, Howard on Saturday afternoon and Virginia on Sunday afternoon.

There will be a pregame championship banner unveiling ceremony on Friday night to commemorate the 2022 America East Championship victory.
