BALTIMORE -- Freshmen
Julija Grubisic Cabo and
Hannah Howard had standout performances as the UMBC Volleyball team opened its home slate with a four set victory (25-23, 21-25, 25-16, 25-18) over defending Ivy League regular season champion Princeton on Friday night.
Grubisic Cabo had a career-high 17 kills on .389 hitting, 12 digs, four blocks and three aces, while Howard tallied a career-best 28 digs (8th most in a single match in UMBC history).
Mia Bilusic added 15 kills and 12 digs, while
Kamani Conteh added 12 kills and five blocks.
Michela De Marzi had nine kills on .438 hitting with four blocks and three digs in the victory.
Mila Ilieva added 5 kills and five blocks,
Serin Maden tallied 24 assists and nine digs, and bird Alford came off the bench and chipped in 14 assists and three digs.
Emily Ferketic had two kills off the bench as well.
The Retrievers host Howard on Saturday at 3 PM.
