Men's Track & Field Posts Multitude of Personal Bests at Bison Classic

Freshmen throwers Iosif Papa and Gabriel Koletsi continue to excel in their first semester of competition

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The UMBC men's track and field program logged a gold and silver medal as eight personal-records fell at Bucknell.
 
UMBC Overview:
 
  • Freshman Iosif Papa has now made it through four regular season meets without finishing even so low as second place. He set a personal record once again in the discus on his way to a fourth gold medal in as many weeks (54.07m).
  • Classmate Gabriel Koletski was just as dominant, tossing the javelin 68.64 meters to snag the silver.
  • Will Sakowicz was the highest non-medalist at fourth place during the mile with a speed of 4:23.22.
  • Two Retrievers logged top-eight allotments as Shavar Staats went for a personal-low time of 10.65 in the 100m (sixth) plus Ibrahim Khairat placed seventh with a 14.25-meter effort.
  • Both relay teams, the 4x100 and 4x400m "A" group, scored by securing eighth (41.60) and fifth (3:16.27), respectively.
  • Top-20 was a fairly common occurrence for the Black and Gold as Liam Meginniss (1,500m – 3:59.33, PR), Aiden Walker (discus – 43.59m), Baraka Sila (3,000m – 8:51.64), Seun Olajide (200m – 21.91, PR), and Nicolas Alphonse (110 hurdles – 15.20), who also finished among the top-25 out of 103 runners for the 400m (49.34 – PR).
  • UMBC student-athletes who were in the top 50% for their events including Thomas Foulkes (1,500m – 4:02.13), Cameron Hindle (5,000m – 14:36.11), Daron Taylor (800m – 1:55.71, PR), Jayo Adegboyo (400m – 50.40), Roger Wright (100m – 11.08 / 200m – 22.27, PR), Marquis Miller (200m – 22.37), and Michael Arnold (200m – 22.38).
  • New benchmarks broken were Brendan Cave's 1,500m (4:04.13), Pelumi Olujumo's 400m (51.80 – PR), plus Sharwin Vyapuri's 110 hurdles (16.24 – PR).
