BALTIMORE - Visiting Binghamton's scored three straight goals to open the second quarter and UMBC could never pull even as the Bearcats defeated the Retrievers, 16-13, in an America East Conference contest played two-and-a-half hours later than scheduled at UMBC Stadium.
The UMBC women's team's game versus UMass Lowell, which preceded the men's game, was delayed by nearly three hours due to lightning in the immediate area. Hence, the 3:30 start time for the men was pushed back to 6:10 p.m.
The Retrievers (7-4, 2-3 America East) took their only lead of the game at 2-1 on a
Jordan Galloway goal just shy of the midpoint of the first quarter. But Binghamton knotted the score with 2:27 remaining in the period and scored three times in the first 3:37 of the second stanza to take a 5-2 advantage.

Brett Baucia scored the final two goals of the first half.
UMBC cut the deficit to one goal on two occasions after finding the net to open both the third and fourth quarters. But each time Binghamton won the ensuing face-off and scored on that possession.

Dane Hall closed the gap to 10-9, finishing on a nice inside feed by senior attackman
Mike Doughty at the 3:47 mark of the fourth quarter. But the Bearcats went on a 3-0 run and led, 13-9, with 5:29 remaining in the game.
There were 11 goals scored in the dusk of the fourth quarter, with BU outscoring UMBC, 6-5.
Baucia posted his second consecutive four-goal game and reached the 20-goal plateau (21) for the first time in his career. Hall tallied his second straight hat trick, while
Mateo Brown and Galloway each scored twice.
Gage Adams led a balanced Bearcat attack with four goals, while Ethan Insinga recorded three goals and three assists.
UMBC outshot Binghamton, 53-40, but Binghamton goalkeeper Connor Winters made 18 stops.

Alex Steers entered the game in the second half and won 12-of-16 draws for the hosts.Â
The Retrievers fell for the first time at UMBC Stadium this season (6-1), while BU improved to 6-1 on the road.
UMBC plays its final road contest of the year at NJIT on Saturday, April 22.
