Kya Matter fired her second career no-hitter and senior
Madison Wilson smacked a walk-off homer to give the host UMBC Softball team a 1-0 victory over the Bryant Bulldogs in the opening game of their America East doubleheader on Sunday afternoon at the Diamond at UMBC.
UMBC improved to 9-9 overall and 1-0 in the conference while the Bulldogs dropped to 7-12 (0-1).
Matter fanned 14 of 24 batters faced and allowed just a walk in her 110-pitch masterpiece.
Wilson, who went 2-for-3 at the designate player spot, drilled a one-out, 2-2 offering from reliever Brooke Tracy over the left field fence for the game-winner. The bomb was her third of the season and ninth of her career.
Matter, the 2022 America East Rookie of the Year, improved to 5-3 on the season and picked up her sixth complete game along with her second shutout. Matter is now 20-6 in 25 career starts to open her career.
