Wilson's Homer Not Enough as Softball Drops 4-3 Decision

BALTIMORE – Madison Wilson (Abingdon, Md.) blasted a two-run homer, and Madison O'Berg (Lorain, Ohio) pitched 3.2 scoreless innings of relief, but the UMBC Softball team dropped a 4-3 decision to visiting Coppin State on Wednesday.

How it Happened:
  • Coppin State got on the board without a hit in the first after three walks and a hit-by-pitch
  • UMBC responded in the bottom of the second when Courtney Coppersmith (York, Pa.) singled and would then score on a Lyndsey Evix (Cumberland, Md.) double.
  • The Eagles would put up three in the top of the third to take a 4-1 lead.
  • In the bottom of the sixth, Karly Keating was hit by a pitch to leadoff the inning and Wilson then blasted a two-run homer to cut the deficit to 4-3.
  • Coppersmith followed with a single and eventually stole second, but was stranded, and the Retrievers would go down in order in the seventh.
