University Park, Pa. -- Ashley Della Guardia (Phoenixville, Pa.) blasted her third homer of the season, but the UMBC Softball team dropped a 10-2 decision in six innings to Cornell.

Shanel Stott (Cumberland, Md.) drove in the other run for the Retrievers, while three pitchers combined for eight strikeouts.

The UMBC (8-7) offense also got a pair of hits from Madison Wilson (Abingdon, Md.).

Della Guardia also drew a walk, as did Karly Keating (Orlando, Fla.), who extended her on-base stream to five.

The Retrievers return home to face Coppin State and Hofstra this week before opening America East play next weekend at home against Bryant
