Men's Lacrosse Continues Prowess on Both Ends of the Field in 13-4 Victory over St. Bonaventure

The Retrievers have outscored three foes, 41-17, in their 3-0 start

Box Score BALTIMORE – UMBC men's lacrosse continued its early season prowess on both ends of the field, as the Retrievers routed St. Bonaventure, 13-4, in chilly conditions at UMBC Stadium.

The Retrievers (3-0) have outscored their first three opponents, 41-17.

Juniors Allen Hockenberry (3g, 2a) (Bowie, Md./St. Mary's) and Mateo Brown (4g) (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron) led the UMBC attack, but seven Retrievers contributed goals.

Defensively, UMBC held SBU to only 25 shots and junior goalkeeper Jayson Tingue turned aside eight shots on goal. The Retrievers held the Bonnies off the board in the second half until only 30 seconds remained in the contest.

Brown, who has ten goals through three games, opened the scoring with an eight-yard left-handed shot at the 2:17 mark. Hockenberry made it 2-0 with a turnaround right-handed bounce shot at 6:06.

After SBU's Kyle Pepper got his side on board at 8:33, UMBC sophomore midfielder Jordan Galloway tallied his first of back-to-back goals (11:13) and the Retrievers led, 3-1, after 15 minutes.

The Retrievers outscored the Bonnies, 4-2, in the second quarter and led, 7-3, at halftime.

Hockenberry tallied his second of the game, coming out front from the right side of the goal with 14 ticks left on the first half clock and that started a 7-0 Retriever run. He completed his first career hat trick 2:03 into the third quarter and Brown followed suit just 66 seconds later.

UMBC led, 10-3, after three quarters and by as many as 13-3 until a late SBU score.

Galloway (2-1-3) had a 3-point night and grad student attackman Brett Baucia contributed a goal and an assist. He extended his scoring streak to 16 consecutive games.

Tingue, who entered the game with the nation's lowest GAA, lowered it to 5.09.

The UMBC defense caused nine of SBU's 21 turnovers.

The Retrievers will complete their three-game homestand by welcoming Towson to UMBC Stadium on Saturday, March 4 at noon.
