Men's Lacrosse Welcomes St. Bonaventure for Wednesday Evening Contest

The Retrievers and Bonnies will meet for the first time on the lacrosse field. .

BALTIMORE - The UMBC men's lacrosse team continues its three-game homestand when they welcome St. Bonaventure to refurbished UMBC Stadium on Friday, Feb. 24. The opening face-off is set for 6:00 p.m. and the contest will be broadcast on America East.tv with Gary Stein on the call.
 
RETRIEVER NOTES   
  • Junior attackman Mateo Brown scored five times to lead the Retrievers to a convincing 16-6 victory over Mount St. Mary's before 815 fans at UMBC Stadium in the Feb. 24 home opener.
  • In addition to Brown notching his first career multiple-goal game, sophomore midfielder Josh Tang also posted his first career three-goal effort.
  • Grad student Brett Baucia, has a pair of goals in each game in 2022 and is three points shy of 50. He has at least one point scored in 15 consecutive games, dating back to the 2022 season opener.
  • Through two games, Brown leads the team with six goals and seven total points. Sophomore midfielder Kevin Doughty has three goals and a team-high three assists, while Baucia has totaled 4-1-5.
  • Junior goalkeeper Jayson Tingue (2-0, 5.65 GAA, 65.4 save percentage) is ranked xth in goals against average and xth in save percentage through games played on Feb. 26.
  • The Retrievers are receiving votes in both the USILA Coaches' Poll (3 votes) and Inside Lacrosse Media poll as of Feb. 27.
  • UMBC is attempting to match the 2021 season, when they opened with three consecutive victories. Prior to that campaign where UMBC shared the regular season title, they had not started a year at 3-0 since 2009.
  • Fifth-year midfielder Taylor Bohahan, who served as a co-captain in 2022, will reprise his role in 2023, along with senior defender Ricky Fedorchak and juniors Kyle Hoff (SSDM) and Brian Tregoning (A).
  • After competing on the grass at Retriever Soccer Park in 2022, UMBC returns to the turf at UMBC Stadium this spring. UMBC Stadium now features a new press box, a fan amenities building and new walking bridge to the facility.
A GLANCE AT THE BONNIES  
  • After three consecutive losses to open the season, the Bonnies cruised to a 15-9 home victory over VMI on Feb. 25.
  • Grad student attackman Sean Westley, the 2022 MAAC Co-Offensive Player of the Year, scored six goals versus the Keydets. Westley amassed 30 goals and 26 assists for SBU in 2022.
  • Senior linemate Jake Rosa added five goals vs. VMI. Rosa leads the Bonnies with 13 goals and 18 points this year, while Westley has 9-8-17.
  • The Bonnies dropped a 12-11 overtime decision versus UMBC's America East rival Binghamton on Feb. 18.
  • SBU is winning 58.7 percent of its face-offs. Quinn Nolan has taken 54-of-88 (61.4%).
  • St. Bonaventure posted an 11-4 record in 2022, but fell, 8-7, in the MAAC title game vs. Manhattan.   
ALL-TIME SERIES
  • This will be the first meeting between UMBC and St. Bonaventure.
