Lewisburg, Pa. – UMBC women's lacrosse scored seven consecutive first half goals and held off host Bucknell, 12-10, to improve to 2-0 on the young season.

Katana Nelson led in the goal-scoring column for the Retrievers, tallying three goals apiece. For Nelson, it matched her career high in scoring.

Megan Halczuk produced four points, with a pair of goals and two helpers. Red-shirt sophomore
Kolby Weedon added two goals and one assist in a balanced Retriever attack.
After allowing the game's first goal 3:30 into the contest, Halczuk triggered the 7-0 run by converting a free position attempt 34 seconds later. The Retrievers would score three times in the final 3:16 of the first quarter, as Bockstie sandwiched a pair of tallies around one by Weedon.
Leading 4-1 after 15 minutes, UMBC tacked on three more goals in the first 4:22 of the second stanza. Nelson scored goals six and seven on free position shots just 12 seconds apart.
The Bison shaved the deficit to 8-3 at the half.
Bockstie completed her hat trick just 3:49 into the third period to equalize a Bison score. But Bucknell reeled off three straight goals and came within 9-7 with 8:11 to play in the stanza.
Halczuk converted on a free position shot to halt the run and Weedon finalized the scoring of the third period with her second score of the game.
UMBC led, 11-7, after 45 minutes, but the Bison scored a pair of early fourth quarter to once again climb to within a pair of goals. Nelson buried her third free position goal of the evening to give the Retrievers a 12-9 lead with 3:43 remaining and the Retrievers held off Bucknell down the stretch.

Isabella Fontana produced another double-digit save effort, stopping ten Bison efforts on goal.
Junior defender
Kennedy Evans was stellar, causing six turnovers and coming up with three draw controls and a pair of ground balls.
The Retrievers scored on five of seven free position shots.
UMBC opens the home schedule on Saturday, Feb. 18 when they host American University at UMBC Stadium. The opening draw is set for noon.
