Kansas City, Mo. – UMBC forward
Taylor Calheira and defender
Lasse Kelp earned United Soccer Coaches All-Northeast Region honors for the 2023 campaign.
After two years as a Second Team selection, Calheira landed on the Northeast Region's First Team, while Kelp earned Third Team honors.
United Soccer Coaches have honored 34 different UMBC men's soccer players since 1991.
Calheira is just one of three Retrievers to earn three all-region honors. Derek McElligott earned All-South Atlantic Region honors from 2002-04, while Andrew Bulls was selected to the Northeast Region Team from 2009-11. The two-time America East Striker of the Year is UMBC's first member of the First Team All-Region since defender Jon Bell achieved that accolade in 2018.
Calheira will earn his undergraduate degree from UMBC later this month, with a double major in media and communication studies and psychology.
Kelp, a sophomore, earned America East Conference First Team and All-Academic Team honors and College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team recognition.
