de Padua Leads Women's Swimming & Diving at Bucknell Invitational

Lewisburg, Pa. – Sophomore Bruna de Padua highlighted the UMBC women's swimming and diving team's effort at the Bucknell Invitational.

The native of Brazil won the 200 yard freestyle, holding the lead from start-to-finish and touching in at 1:49.91 on the second day of competition.

She also finished fourth in the 500 freestyle on Friday.

"We are very aware of the hill that we need to climb in the America East," said Head Coach Matt Donovan. "We are constantly seeking out top level competition to prepare us for championships.  These ladies really stepped up this weekend and posted amazing results.  We are very excited for the second half of the season. "

NOTES  
  • Senior Makaela Hill and freshman Ashley Gutshall placed fifth and sixth in the 50 yard freestyle in times of 23.57 and 23.63 respectively.
  • Senior Nyah Stahl earned a spot in the finals of the 200 yard backstroke and finished sixth in 2:02.77.
  • Seeded sixth entering the finals, Hill earned a tie for the bronze in the 100 freestyle, touching the wall at the same time as a Davidson swimmer in 50.93.
UMBC will not compete until their Senior Day Meet versus Salisbury University and Frostburg State University on Saturday, Jan. 20 at 1:00 p.m. The team will train in Florida in early January prior to resuming their intercollegiate schedule.
