Women's Basketball Falls at Manhattan

Riverdale, N.Y. -- Three Retrievers reach double-figures, but a fourth quartter rally came up short as the UMBC Women's Basketball team fropped a 68-52 decision to host Manhattan on Sunday afternoon.

The Jaspers built a game-high 19 point lead at 45-26 midway through the third, but UMBC chipped away and cut the deficit to 52-43 less than three minutes into the final frame. The hosts would score 13 of the next 19 points to secure the victory.

Anna Blount and Jaden walker each had a team-high 12 points, with Blount adding nine rebounds, three steals and two blocks. Jordon Lewis added 10 points, while Jaliena Sanchez chipped in seven points and three assists.

UMBC scored the first four points of the second quarter to take a 12-11 lead, but Manhattan responded with a 20-2 run to go up 31-14 The Retrievers scored the final six points of the half to trim the deficit to 11 at the break.

The teams traded baskets to start the third, but a 10-0 Jaspers run gave the hosts the 19-point lead they would not relinquish.

UMBC has a quick turnaround as it hosts Bryant & Stratton Syracuse on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. on ESPN+
