BALTIMORE -- The clock hit zero with UMBC up 48-47, but officials went to the monitor and ruled that UMBC committed a foul with 0.5 seconds left, and Loyola would hit both free throws to escape with a 49-48 win on Wednesday night at The Peake.
Jaliena Sanchez led the Retrievers (1-3) with 13 points four rebounds and three assists.
Paloma Iradier had 10 points, six rebounds and two assists, while fellow SpaniardÂ
Carmen Yánez seven points, two assists and two rebounds.Â
Trinity Palacio had nine points, while
Anna Blount added six points, eight rebounds and a pair of assists. UMBC held Loyola to 0-17 shooting from three point range in the contest.
The Retrievers have a week off before traveling west to Oregon State for a Thanksgiving Eve matchup with the Beavers.
