Lexington, Va. – The UMBC men's swimming and diving squad faced some tough foes as they tested the waters at VMI's year-old Aquatic Center. The 2024 America East Championships will take place at the facility in mid-February.
Freshman diver
Andy Vines continued his early impressive results, winning both boards. He set a pool record with a mark of 284.25 on the 1-meter board and also captured the 3-meter board with a 238.90 score.
Senior captain
Charles Bennici produced a strong meet, earning a pair of fourth place efforts in the 500 and 1000 freestyle events. Freshman
Nick Bracall edged Bennici in the 1000, placing third and got under the 10-minute plateau (9:59.93)
Senior
Ethan Riser touched in fourth place in the 200 butterfly with a mark of 1:55.42.
The Retrievers capped the day with a strong third-place effort in the 200 freestyle relay. The quartet of
Christian Coleman,
Michael Truong,
Oliver Gassmann and
Bode Neale posted a mark of 1:27.44.
"Today was a great test with strong competition before we approach the midpoint of the season," said assistant coach Pat Malone. "I am proud of what our group has been able to accomplish thus far."
The Retrievers return home on Saturday, Nov. 18 when they host Manhattan and St. Peter's on the annual Professor's Appreciation Day. The meet gets underway at 2:00 p.m.
