WEST HARTFORD, CONN. -- The UMBC softball team out-hit host Hartford, but a leadoff homer in the bottom of the first was all the Hawks would need in a 1-0 victory on Saturday afternoon.

Ashley Della Guardia (Phoenixville, Pa.) was the only player in the game with multiple hits, as she went 2-for-3.

Courtney Coppersmith (York, Pa.) took the tough-luck loss, striking out 11 and allowing just three hits.

Coppersmith, Karly Keating (Orlando, Fla.) and Sierra Pierce (Youngstown, Ohio) also picked up hits for UMBC (17-6, 2-2 AE).

The teams will conclude the series with a doubleheader tomorrow at 11 a.m.
