Women’s Lacrosse Defeats New Hampshire, 13-10 on Senior Day; Retrievers Clinch Four Seed in #AEWLAX Tournament

UMBC women’s lacrosse snapped a four-game losing streak with a 13-10 win against the Wildcats on Saturday afternoon.

BALTIMORE– UMBC women's lacrosse snapped a four-game losing streak with a 13-10 win against the Wildcats on Saturday afternoon. Claire Bockstie (Forest Hill, Md./Maryvale Prep) led the way with four goals in the win.

UMBC concludes the regular season at 8-8, 2-4 AE while New Hampshire drops to 7-8, 2-4 AE.

Megan Halczuk (Fawn Grove, Pa.) broke the single-season draw control record, a record she set last season. Lexi Roberts (Baldwin, Md./Fallston) recorded her 300th career save in the contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • After the Wildcats opened the scoring, UMBC rattled off three straight with goals coming from Bockstie, Katana Nelson (Hummelstown, Pa.), and Dymin Gerow (Baltimore, Md./Episcopal) in a four-minute span.
  • UNH responded to tie the game, but that would be the closest the Wildcats would come the rest of the way.
  • UMBC took a 5-4 lead after one and got back-to-back goals from Bockstie to open the second.
  • The Retrievers quelled a New Hampshire run getting a goal from Kolby Weedon (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville) with nine seconds left in the second.
  • Not to be outdone, senior Megan Cleverly (Middletown, Md./Middletown) found the net off a Halczuk feed with one second left to take a 9-6 lead at the break.
  • The Wildcats cut the lead to 11-9 late in the third, but Weedon once again beat the buzzer to push the advantage back to three.
  • UMBC would clamp down on defense in the fourth, allowing just one goal to defeat the Wildcats 13-10.

NOTABLE:
  • Bockstie led the Retrievers with four goals and two assists for a game-high six points.
  • Gerow, Weedon, and Halczuk each chipped in two goals with Halczuk recording seven draw controls.
  • Lexi Roberts made 10 saves in the win.

UMBC will be the four seed in the upcoming America East Tournament and will face the top-seeded UAlbany Great Danes on Thursday, May 5. Opening draw is slated for 3 p.m.
