Halczuk Nets Hat Trick; Women’s Lacrosse Falls 20-8 at No. 6 Stony Brook on Saturday

UMBC women’s lacrosse dropped a 20-8 decision at No. 6 Stony Brook on Saturday night.

Stony Brook, N.Y.-- UMBC women's lacrosse dropped a 20-8 decision at No. 6 Stony Brook on Saturday night. The Retrievers got within three in the first half, but the Seawolves scored ten straight to pull away. Megan Halczuk (Fawn Grove, Pa.) had a good all-around game with three goals and nine draw controls.

The Retrievers fall to 7-8, 1-4 AE while the Seawolves win their tenth straight to improve to 12-2, 5-0 AE.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Stony Brook got out to a fast start with six straight goals over the first nine minutes, holding UMBC to just one shot.
  • However the Retrievers would respond with goals from Megan Halczuk and Kolby Weedon (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville) to make it 6-2 after one.
  • UMBC would cut the lead to just three after goals from Jenna McDermott (Westminster, Md./South Carroll) and Weedon, but the Seawolves would score the last six goals of the half to take a 13-4 lead at the break.
  • Stony Brook continued where they left off in the third, holding UMBC off the scoreboard till the final minute. Halczuk scored her second goal of the game off a pass from Bockstie to make it 17-5 after three.
  • UMBC would get three goals in the fourth from Halczuk, McDermott, and Katana Nelson (Hummelstown, Pa.), but the Seawolves defeated the Retrievers 20-8 on Saturday.

NOTABLE:
  • Halczuk led the Retrievers with three goals and nine draw controls. 
  • McDermott and Weedon each had two goals for UMBC.
  • Lexi Roberts (Baldwin, Md./Fallston) made nine saves in net for the Retrievers.

UMBC will close out the regular season next Saturday, April 30 against New Hampshire. The game will also be senior day, with the team recognizing their seniors pregame.
