Women’s Lacrosse Takes on #6 Stony Brook in Final Road Contest of Season

UMBC women’s lacrosse will travel to nationally-ranked Stony Brook on Saturday in their final road contest of the regular season.

BALTIMORE– UMBC women's lacrosse will travel to nationally-ranked Stony Brook on Saturday in their final road contest of the regular season. The Retrievers are coming off a tough 13-9 loss last Saturday against UAlbany. UMBC had the game tied early in the fourth quarter, but the Great Danes pulled away late.

Scouting the Retrievers:
  • UMBC will hit the road for the final time in the regular season against defending champion and sixth-ranked Stony Brook on Saturday. The Retrievers are coming off a tough 13-9 loss to UAlbany last Saturday at home. 
  • Claire Bockstie (Forest Hill, Md./Maryvale Prep) leads the Retrievers and the America East with 56 goals and 14 assists for 70 points. Dymin Gerow (Baltimore, Md./Episcopal) is just behind her with 41 goals and 50 points.
  • Kolby Weedon (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville) has chipped in 39 goals and 46 draw controls during her first season with the Retrievers. Megan Halczuk (Fawn Grove, Pa.) leads the team with 90 draw controls. 

Scouting the Seawolves:
  • Stony Brook comes into the contest at 11-2, 4-0 AE on the year as the number sixth-ranked team in the latest polls. The Seawolves are on a nine-game win streak, most recently defeating Binghamton on Tuesday, 18-3. 
  • Ellie Masera is the only other player in the league to have eclipsed the 50-goal mark this year with 50 goals. She has 61 points to lead the Seawolves. Kailyn Hart is just behind her with 43 goals and 57 points. 
  • Masera also leads the team in the circle, collecting 77 draw controls. 
  • As a team, the Seawolves have +8.92 goals per game advantage, scoring 15.38 per game while giving up just 6.46 per game.

All-Time Series:
  • This will be the 23rd meeting between the two schools with the Seawolves leading the series 14-8. Stony Brook has won the last 14 meetings after UMBC won the first eight matchups.

Milestone Watch:
  • Megan Halczuk is 15 draw controls away from breaking her single-season mark of 104 set last year. She is also just 58 away from becoming the all-time leader.
  • Claire Bockstie is seven goals away from breaking the single-season record and is 13 points away from being the single-season record holder. She is also just 16 shot attempts away from breaking the single-season mark.

Up Next:
  • UMBC will take on New Hampshire in the regular-season finale on Saturday, April 30.
  • Opening draw with the Wildcats is set for 12 p.m. and will serve as Senior Day. The Retrievers will honor their senior class before the game.
