BALTIMORE– UMBC baseball broke their four game losing streak with a 10-9 win against the Great Danes on Sunday. Ian Diaz (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Drew Roberts (Matthews, N.C.) each had a pair of hits and drove in three runs in the win.

UMBC snapped a four-game losing streak to improve to 8-11, 1-2 AE on the year while the Great Danes fell to 11-6, 2-1 AE.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • After the Great Danes got a run in their half of the first, the Retrievers responded in the form of a three-run home run from Ian Diaz to give UMBC a 3-1 lead.
  • The Great Danes would respond in the second on a sacrifice fly to cut the Retriever lead to 3-2.
  • UAlbany would retake the lead 5-3 after putting up three runs in the fourth.
  • Tony Krueger (Appleton, Wisc.) would lead off the Retriever half of the fourth with a single and later score on a Christian Easley (Collinsville, Va.) single to cut the deficit to 5-4.
  • Trailing 6-4, the Retriever bats would come to life. Roberts would smash a bases clearing double to put UMBC in front 7-6 and would later score on a Myles Nicholson (Hagerstown, Md./St. James) RBI single to make it 8-6 UMBC.
  • The Retrievers would not stop there, getting a pair of runs in the seventh on a sacrifice fly and a throwing error to put UMBC in front 10-6.
  • The Great Danes would cut the deficit to 10-9 into the ninth, but Evan Selmer (Beltsville, Md./Indian Creek) retired UAlbany in order to preserve a UMBC win.

NOTABLE:
