BALTIMORE --
Courtney Coppersmith (York, Pa.) threw her eighth career no-hitter, while
Meghan Dempsey (Collegeville, Pa.) and
Zoe Russell (Roxboro, N.C.) each hit a two run homer as the UMBC Softball team won its 11th straight with a 4-0 victory over Quinnipiac. on Saturday morning.
Coppersmith retired the first 17 batters of the game before issuing a two-out walk in the sixth. The only other base runner she allowed was on a one-out hit batter in the seventh. She finished with 15 strikeouts in the effort.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Anna Lonchar (Bristow, Va.) got a leadoff single in the second and would score when Russell won an 11 pitch at-bat with a two-run homer to put UMBC (13-4) up 2-0
- Casey Turner (Baltimore, Md.) reached on an error to leadoff the fourth and would score on Dempey's two-run shot.
- That's where the score would remain as Coppersmith would keep Quinnipiac (2-9) off the board the rest of the way
Shanel Stott (Cumberland, Md.),
Madison Wilson (Abingdon, Md.) and
Logan Hawker (Mechanicsville, Va.) all had hits for the Retrievers.
