BALTIMORE - UMBC's
Claire Bockstie (Forest Hill, Md./Maryvale Prep) and
Kolby Weedon (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville) combined for nine goals as the Retrievers overwhelmed George Washington, 16-5, in chilly conditions at Retriever Soccer Park.
Bockstie scored five times and added three assists, while Weedon tallied four goals with one assist as UMBC improved to 3-1 on the season.
The Retriever defense was also solid, and graduate student goalkeeper
Lexi Roberts (Baldwin,, Md./Fallston) backstopped well with 12 saves.
After GW scored just 65 seconds into the game, UMBC ran off five consecutive tallies and eventually built a 6-2 lead after the first quarter.
The Retrievers led, 8-4, at intermission and four different Retriever goal scorers opened the third quarter scoring to put the game out of reach.
Senior
Megan Cleverly (Middletown, Md.) added two goals and an assist for UMBC and freshman
Alexis Abe (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck)) tallied a pair of goals.
