The UMBC women's soccer team returns home on Sunday, Oct. 9 when they host the UAlbany Great Danes. The opening whistle is set for 1:00 p.m. at Retriever Soccer Park and will be broadcast on the America East Digital Network. The Retrievers enter the contest with a 4-4-4 (0-1-2 America East Conference) mark while the third-place Great Danes are 4-7-2 (2-1-1 America East).
NOTABLEÂ Â
- For the second time in two America East road games, the Black and Gold held the hosts scoreless, but could not dent the scoreboard and played the Bryant Bulldogs to a scoreless draw last Sunday in Smithfield, Rhode Island.
- The Retrievers outshot Bryant, 15-12, and attempted five of the game's seven corner kicks.
- Junior striker Meghan McKye (Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Northern Secondary School) was credited with seven shots in the contest.
- UMBC senior goalkeeper Morgan McGruder (Overland Park, Kan., Blue Valley North) posted her sixth shutout of the season, making four saves in the process.
- McGruder is tied for 16th nationally with five shutouts.
- UMBC has allowed just 12 goals all season and are second on the America East circuit with a stingy 1.00 goals against average.
- The Retrievers will play three of their final five regular-season contests at Retriever Soccer Park. The Dawgs will host their Most Valuable Professor Night against New Hampshire (10/23) and will celebrate Senior Day post-game versus Binghamton (10/27).
- The America East Conference tabbed UMBC sophomore fullback Alyssa Clearfield (Columbia, Md., Atholton) as its Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 5. Clearfield has played all 1080 minutes through 12 games this season.Â
A GLANCE AT THE GREAT DANESÂ Â Â
- UAlbany is coming off a 1-0 setback at Maine last Sunday afternoon as they were outshot by a 15-6 margin. The Great Danes are just 1-5 on the road this season with their lone win coming at New Hampshire on September 18th.
- The Great Danes have been outscored by a combined 19-14 margin thus far in 2022.
- Freshman forward Emily Jozak has scored a team-high five goals, including a hat-trick in the victory versus Rider on August 31st. Junior midfielder Olivia Piraino has added three markers, including a pair in the win at New Hampshire.
- Junior goalkeeper Megan Hart has started all 13 contests and has recorded a 1.49 goals against average with a .750 save percentage.Â

- This is the 20th meeting between UAlbany and UMBC, with the Colonials holding a 11-7-1 advantage in the series.
- UMBC has dropped six straight in the series and is winless in seven. The Retrievers' last victory occurred in 2014, a 1-0 triumph in Albany, New York. Their last win in Baltimore came in 2013, a 3-1 decision at RSP.
- The two squads met as recently as 2021, with the Great Danes pulling off a 4-0 win in Albany.
