The UMBC men's swimming and diving squad will open the 2022-23 campaign by taking on the University of Delaware and Johns Hopkins University on Saturday, Oct. 8 at Rawstrom Natatorium in Newark, Del. The double-dual meets get underway at 11:00 a.m. and live results will be available on the Meet Manager app.
RETRIEVERS TO WATCH
- Senior Niklas Weigelt earned his second consecutive America East Most Outstanding Swimmer honor after capturing three individual and two relay golds at the 2022 America East Championships. He was also named to his second straight America East All-Academic Team.
- Junior Dani Nicusen produced another outstanding meet at America East Championships, capturing golds in the 200 breaststroke and 200 IM, while setting a meet record in the breaststroke event. He was also named to the America East All-Academic Team.
- Senior diver Will Henrickson earned Diver of the Meet honors at the 2022 ECAC Winter Championships.
- Graduate students Jimmy Dwyer and Collin Mood, along with Weigelt are the 2022-23 team captains.
WE MEET AGAIN
The same three squads competed at the UMBC Aquatics Complex on Oct. 2, 2021.
The men lost close meets to both programs (131-169, Delaware; 120-168, Johns Hopkins). Henrickson won the 3-meter diving event with a score of 235.05.
UP NEXT
Both teams head to conference rival NJIT for a meet on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 14-15. The men will face the host Highlanders and St. Francis Brooklyn Terriers, while the women take on America East foe Vermont, along with the Terriers.
