BALTIMORE – UMBC Head Men's Lacrosse Coach
Ryan Moran announced the Retrievers' 2023 spring schedule on Monday, Oct. 31.
The 12-contest slate features eight home games that will be played at the refurbished UMBC Stadium Complex. That includes a four-game homestand on the eve of the 2023 America East Conference schedule.
UMBC will commence the campaign at Drexel on Saturday, Feb. 18. They open the home slate the following Saturday, Feb. 25 when Mount St. Mary's re-opens UMBC Stadium. The Retrievers host St. Bonaventure for the first time in program history on Wednesday, March 1, then entertain Towson on Saturday, March 4. The homestand concludes on Saturday, March 11 when Mercer comes north to face Moran's squad.
"We are excited to have a few more home games than in years' past," said Moran. "We are equally as excited to be playing these home games in our newly-renovated UMBC Stadium. The upgrades to our home facility is going to create an excellent atmosphere for our visiting teams and all attending fans."
The UMBC Stadium Complex now features
- A new press box with multiple broadcast booths and a VIP area
- A fan amenities building and plaza on the hill overlooking the field, which includes ticketing, concessions and restrooms
- New stairways, ramps and a bridge from Hilltop Circle, making the facility much more accessible for all spectators
- New bleacher seating with ADA accessible areas just below the press box
UMBC played its home lacrosse game at Retriever Soccer Park in 2021, while renovations on the stadium were taking place.
The Retrievers open America East competition by facing the two newest league members on back-to-back Saturdays. UMBC will visit Bryant on March 18 and will entertain associate league newcomer Merrrimack on March 25.
"Our program is excited to welcome Bryant and Merrimack into the America East Conference," said Moran. "They are two very competitive and well-coached programs that are going to bolster this already competitive conference."
After a visit to UAlbany on Saturday, April 1, the Retrievers host UMass Lowell and Binghamton on April 8 and 15. UMBC takes on NJIT in Newark on April 22, then concludes the regular season in grand fashion on Saturday, April 29. The Retrievers will host Vermont in a rematch of the 2022 America East championship game, in addition to celebrating its annual Senior Day.
The 2023 America East Championships will be held on Thursday and Saturday, May 4 and 6 at the site of the highest seed (regular season champion or co-champion).
