KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Oct.19, 2022) – United Soccer Coaches announced its College Player of the Week awards on Wednesday afternoon and UMBC senior midfielder Ryan Becher (Hummelstown, Pa.) earned the NCAA Division I men's top national honor.
Becher, who also earned his second consecutive America East Conference Offensive Player of the Week honor, scored twice and added an assist in the 4-2 win at Delaware on Oct. 11 and produced a goal and a helper in the 2-0 victory at Bryant on Oct. 15.
With 15 points in his last three games, one of the team's tri-captains now leads the nation in points per game (2.15). Becher's ten goals is tied for the fourth-most scored in the nation as of Oct. 17.
Becher (22 goals) became the first Retriever since Pete Caringi III (2013) to reach the 20-goal plateau. His current 2022 total of 28 points is the most since the current UMBC assistant coach amassed 29 in that season.
The Retrievers take on Navy in Annapolis on Wednesday evening, then return home to face No. 10 Vermont in a crucial America East battle on Saturday at Retriever Soccer Park (7:00 p.m.).
