Women's Soccer Concludes Homestand vs. Longwood on Thursday Evening

BALTIMORE – The UMBC women's soccer squad (2-1-1) wraps up their season-long three-game homestand when Longwood (1-4-1) visits Retriever Soccer Park on Thursday evening. The non-conference contest will get underway at 6:00 p.m. and will air on the America East digital network.

UMBC Notes

  • Junior striker Julianna Rafaniello (Old Bridge, N.J.) scored in the 66' to break a 1-1 tie and UMBC went on to a 2-1 victory over VMI on Sept. 4 at Retriever Soccer Park. Sophomore Grace Harvey (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) scored her first career goal late in the first half (37') to knot the score at 1-1.
  • Rafaniello continues to lead the squad with seven points (3g, 1a). He had a hand in all three goals in UMBC's opening 3-1 win over Robert Morris and earned the America East's first Offensive Player of the Week honor. She leads the conference with 1.75 points per game and is one of three league players to tally a pair of game-winning goals.
  • Graduate student midfielder Erin Stevenson (Sellersville, Pa.) started her 61st consecutive game and has played in all 61 UMBC contests since 2017. Stevenson has a goal and an assist on the season and is looking for career goal No. 10. She added an assist on Harvey's goal versus VMI.
  • The 2-1-1 start is the Retrievers' best since 2014 when they opened the campaign at 4-0-0.

A Glance at the Lancers:

  • Longwood (1-4-1) is in the middle of a six-game road swing and has only played once at home (2-1 loss to American, Aug. 26) so far this fall.
  • The Lancers are unbeaten in the last two, posting a 2-1 win at Howard on Sept. 2 and playing a scoreless draw at Western Carolina on Sept. 5. Senior goalkeeper Jordan Horacek was brilliant, making 13 saves in 110 minutes of action. Horacek has only allowed two goals in five games (0.47 GAA) and is maintaining a 92.0 save percentage.
  • Freshman striker Kylie Tusant and junior linemate Kiersten Yuhas scored against Howard in the 2-1 victory.

Series History:

  • Longwood leads the all-time series, 3-2-1, but the Retrievers captured the last meeting, 2-0, in 2017. Both UMBC wins have occurred in Baltimore, including the first-ever meeting in 2005 (1-0).

Up Next:

  • UMBC makes the short trip to Emmitsburg on Sunday to take on Mount St. Mary's. Kick-off time is set for 1:00 p.m.
