Men's Soccer Travels to College Park to Take on Maryland on Sunday Evening

The UMBC men's soccer squad (0-1-1) faces another major local test when they make the short trip south on I-95 and take on the Maryland Terrapins on Ludwig Field on Sun., Aug. 29. The opening kick-off is slated for 7:30 p.m.

UMBC opened the campaign with a 2-2 double-overtime draw versus Navy on Thurs., Aug. 26. The Retrievers grabbed a lead with 20 minutes remaining, but the visiting Mids equalized with 2:55 remaining in a game played in sweltering conditions at Retriever Soccer Park.

UMBC junior back Julian Conze (Telgte, Germany) scored on a penalty kick in the 30' to knot the game at 1-1 and the Retrievers took a 2-1 lead in the 70', when junior forward Justin John-Langba (Bowie, Md./Bowie) tapped in a loose ball from close range.

  • The two sides played to a 1-1 double-overtime draw in the most recent meeting, held at Retriever Soccer Park on Sept. 26, 2017. The contest drew a RSP record crowd of 3,766 as UMBC and No. 1 Maryland scored goals within a five-minute span to forge the deadlock.
