DAWG BITES

UMBC put on an offensive showing on Senior Day as they defeated the Binghamton Bearcats, 27-16. The 27 goals are the most scored by the Retrievers this season and the most in an America East conference game. The 46 combined total goals by the two teams is the highest total in UMBC history, outsourcing the 39 combined goals scored by UMBC and Vermont during the 2017 season (UMCB 23, Vermont 16).

The win, which helped the Retrievers clinch a spot in the #AEWLAX Championships next week, also gave UMBC its most America East wins under head coach Amy Slade and the most since 2006 when the Retrievers finished 5-1 in conference play.

10 Retrievers recorded a point in the victory, highlighted by a 10-point performance by freshman Dymin Gerow. Gerow netted seven goals on seven shots, including a 5-5 day from the eight-meter, while dishing out the first three assists of her career. Her 10 points are the best by a Retriever newcomer since Sara Moeller's 13-point game against VCU in 2017.

Sophomore Claire Bockstie reset her personal best with seven goals, while classmate Megan Halczuk was a force on defense, causing four turnovers and picking up three ground balls. Halczuk also broke the UMBC single-game draw control record with 14 on the afternoon; the sophomore has 84 on the season and is three away from tying Caitlin Miller's single-season record set back in 2018.

The Retrievers will make their tenth appearance in the America East tournament. UMBC made a trip back to the #AEWLAX championships in 2019 where the team played Stony Brook in the opening game and fell, 17-5.

TOP DAWGS
UMBC has been cleaning up when it comes to the America East's weekly awards.

For the first time since joining the America East, the Retrievers swept the weekly awards for the week ending April 26. Sophomore Claire Bockstie was named Offensive Player of the Week after resetting her career-high in goals with seven against Binghamton. Classmate Megan Halczuk earned Defensive Player of the Week after forcing four caused turnovers, picking up three ground balls, and breaking the UMBC single-game draw control record with 14; Halczuk also scored a goal and dished out five assists. For the second week in a row and third time this season, freshman Dymin Gerow garnered Rookie of the Week honors following her 10 point performance with seven goals, on seven shots, and three assists, to go along with 10 draw controls.

On April 19, Gerow became the first women's lacrosse player in UMBC history to be named America East Offensive Player and Rookie of the Week in the same week following her career day against Vermont. The freshman scored a career-high five goals to go along with three caused turnovers, two draw controls, and two ground balls in UMBC's 11-8 victory over Vermont. It was the first time an America East player had earned both awards since UNH's Catherine Sexton in 2016.

Following the win over UMass Lowell on April 3, senior goalkeeper Lexi Roberts and Gerow both garnered America East Women's Lacrosse weekly awards. For the second time this season, Roberts was named Defensive Player of the Week, while Gerow earned her first Rookie of the Week nod.

Roberts earned her first Defensive Player of the Week award on March 1, following UMBC's win over VCU in which she made 10 saves against the Rams. Senior Courtney Renehan has also earned an Offensive Player of the Week nod following a seven-goal performance against Hartford on March 13.

About the Opponent: Stony Brook Seawolves

Stony Brook won its eighth America East regular-season title on Wednesday afternoon after defeating the New Hampshire Wildcats, 22-4. The Seawolves led, 5-2, after 10 minutes of play before scoring 10- straight goals to take the 15-2 lead into halftime.

The Seawolves have won 51 consecutive conference contests, the second-longest streak in the NCAA second only to Oklahoma's 60-game stretch.

Stony Brook is 11-2 on the season, having only lost to #1 North Carolina, 14-7, to start the season, and #2 Syracuse, 16-6.

Midfielder Ally Kennedy, who is second on the team with 54 points (49g, 5a), was recently named to the Tewaaraton Award nominee list and a Midseason All-American by Inside Lacrosse.  Inside Lacrosse also named Taryn Ohlmiller, who leads the Seawolves with 62 points (26g, 36a) a Midseason All-American.

In goal, the Seawolves have used both Kameron Halsall and Hayley Hunt. The two goalkeepers combined have a .475 saves percentage and 8.08 goals-against average.

PADDING THE STAT SHEETS
Multiple Retrievers are in the Top 10 in the America East in multiple stat categories but also find themselves among the ranks in the NCAA.

Dymin Gerow, who is 14-17 from the eight-meter this season, is fifth in the nation in free position goals per game (1.56). Olivia Docal is 18th with 1.11 goals per game.

Gerow is fifth in the country and first in the America East in free position percentage, making 82.4 percent of her shots from the fan, while Docal is 17th (.667) in the nation.  As a team, the Retrievers are sixth in the country with a 55.7 free position percentage.

Lexi Roberts is 10th in the nation in ground balls per game (3.60), 21st in saves per game (9.60), and 43rd in save percentage (.449).

THE SERIES
This is the 21st meeting between the two teams, with the Seawolves now owning a 12-game winning streak against the Retrievers and a 12-8 advantage.

Earlier this season, Stony Brook won the #AEWLAX season opener between the two teams, 15-8, in Baltimore.
