Boston, Mass. -- After pitching her sixth career no-hitter, Courtney Coppersmith (York, Pa.) has been named America East Pitcher of the Week for the fifth time this season, while freshman Ashley Della Guardia (Phoenixville, Pa.) was named Rookie of the Week for the third time, the Conference announced on Tuesday.
Coppersmith walked the leadoff hitter, but proceeded to retire the rest of the UMass Lowell lineup in order, including 17 strikeouts, to close out a 5-0 win on Saturday. Della Guardia went 3-for-6 in the doubleheader, with two doubles, two walks and a run scored.
UMBC (16-9, 5-3 AE) welcomes Hartford (3-8, 1-8 AE) to The Diamond for a doubleheader on Wednesday.
Madison Wilson (Abingdon, Md.) leads four Retrievers batting over .300, with a .372 average, .698 and a team-best four homers. Maddie Daigneau (New River, Ariz.) is batting .347 with a team-high 26 hits and 10 stolen bases. Senior Julia Keffler (Huntingtown, Md.) is batting .354 with 23 hits, 11 RBI and five stolen bases.
Della Guardia has 22 hits, is batting .361 and her 15 RBI are tied with Coppersmith for the team-lead. Coppersmith is batting .306 with three homers, four stolen bases and a .571 slugging percentage,
Joining Coppersmith in the circle is sophomore Madie Leach (Erie, Colo.) who is 3-3 with a 2.70 ERA.
Scouting Hartford
The Hawks enter on a four-game losing streak, last winning 10-1 in five innings at Maine on April 10.
All-Conference honoree Danielle Rocheleau leads the team at the plate with a .441 average. She also leads the team in hits (15), homers (two), doubles (five), slugging (.765) and total bases (26). Sophomore Emma Armstrong leads Hartford with eight RBI and is tied with Rocheleau for the team lead in homers, with two.
Sophomore Caylee English is the anchor of the Hawks rotation. She is 2-3, with seven appearances, starting six, a 3.27 ERA, with 22 strikeouts and four walks. Junior Julianna Kocenski has started the other five games for UH, going 0-4 with a 5.44 ERA.
