Nicholson Announces Nine-Member Signing Class

UMBC Softball coach Angie Nicholson announced the signing of nine to her inaugural signing class.

"We are so excited to welcome these young ladies to our Retriever family," said Nicholson. "This is a talented group of versatile athletes who we are looking to come in and make an immediate impact in our program.

First, we have two pitchers who can also play multiple positions around the field.  Caitlyn Karnes is a multi-sport athlete.  She spins the ball well and is able to keep hitters off balance.  When not pitching she can move around anywhere on the field and get the job done. She's a hitter who can also run very well, and we're excited to see where her impact will be felt most.

Then we have Jaidyn Tingen who is another pitcher who has seen a great deal of success in the circle in her career so far.  Not only has she seen success in the circle but brings a very consistent bat at the plate.  Another competitor who can add to the field as well.  These two should really add to a staff that will be quite experienced and able to help guide these freshmen along.

Next we have a set of catchers who can also play multiple positions on the field.  Adrianna Holloway, who is also a teammate of Jaidyn Tingen, can hold down the catching position while also being able to play a corner position or in the outfield.  She can move well and has a stick at the plate.  Isabel Camara is another catcher who sees a lot of time at shortstop as well, and has great feet due to the fact that she is also a dancer.  She's a strong bat at the plate who can also run well.

We added two speedy outfielders in Anwynn Williams and Alex Blauer.  Alex is a teammate of Isabel Camara.  Alex can move and loves to really put pressure on the defense, and is fun to watch on the bases! She's an aggressive gap to gap hitter who often hits for multiple bases due to her speed.  Anwynn is just flat out fast, she runs track and there is a reason for that, and is a threat to make defense have to be perfect, she is going to cause a lot of trouble!

Lastly we have three infielders.  Bri Miller is a corner player with a big lefty bat! She has great presence at the plate and in the field.  Catherine Yourishin is another strong bat who adds a big presence on both sides of the ball.  Finally, Mia Botello is another gap to gap consistent bat who can play on the infield and has great feet to move to outfield.  These three are going to be exciting to see on the infield!

Not only are these young ladies athletic and versatile, but they are even better students and community leaders.  I am so proud and excited to welcome them to our program here at UMBC."
