The UMBC Softball team once again will hit the road as it heads to UMass Lowell for a key three game series this weekend.
The Retrievers (15-8, 4-2 AE) are coming off their first ever road series victory at UAlbany last weekend, while the River Hawks (8-9, 4-2 AE) have not played since a doubleheader split at home with Maine on April 3.
In 2019, UMass Lowell swept the series up in New England, but UMBC would get revenge when it upset the top-seeded River Hawks, 5-0 (via no-hitter), in the America East playoffs en route to winning the championship.
Following a huge weekend at the plate, Madison Wilson (Abingdon, Md.) was named America East Player of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday.
Wilson blasted two home runs and added seven RBI as the UMBC Softball team (15-8, 4-2 AE) took two of three at UAlbany for its first ever road series victory against the Great Danes.
She had a 1.400 OPS, and drove in the winning runs in both victories on the weekend. She hit a pair of two-run homers in a 9-4 win in the first game of the series
Scouting UMass Lowell
The River Hawks swept UAlbany, with two wins via run-rule, to start the America East season, before dropping two of three at home to Maine the following weekend (April 2-3). Those were the last games UMass Lowell played, however, as all games since have been postponed and/or canceled.
Graduate student and three-time America East All-Conference First Team selection Courtney Cashman leads the River Hawk offense in every offensive category. Her .431 average, six homers, 16 RBI, .882 slugging, .567 on-base percentage, 16 walks, 45 total bases, 20 runs, 22 hits, three doubles and a triple are all team-bests.
On the pitching side, sophomore Ryley White is 5-2 with a 2.28 ERA, while senior Lovina Capria is 2-3 with a 3.50 ERA.
First pitch for Saturday's doubleheader is set for 1 p.m., and the series will end with a single game at noon on Sunday.
