The UMBC Softball team will conclude its non-conference schedule when it plays Morgan State four times this weekend. The Lady Bears will host a doubleheader on Saturday, before the Retrievers host two games on Sunday. Games will be at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. both days.
UMBC (6-4) enters play after dropping three of four to GW last weekend. The Retrievers took game one, 4-3, but then fell in three straight, including a 1-0 heartbreaker in game three.
The Retrievers top three in their order have done the bulk of the damage on the offensive end. Leadoff hitter Maddie Daigneau (New River, Ariz.) is batting .464 and leads the team in runs scored with 14, stolen bases with six, and is tied for the team lead in hits with 13. Julia Keffler (Huntingtown, Md.) is in the two spot in the lineup and is batting a team-best .500, has scored 13 runs, and is tied with Daigneau in hits with 13. Freshman Ashley Della Guardia (Phoenixville, Pa.) bats third and is hitting .462 with a team-high 12 RBI.
In the circle, UMBC is led by Courtney Coppersmith (York, Pa.), who is 4-1 with a 0.90 ERA and 57 strikeouts in 31 innings of work.
