BALTIMORE - The UMBC women's lacrosse team will continue its America East slate as the team welcomes the Hartford Hawks to UMBC Stadium on Saturday, March 13 for a morning matchup. The opening draw is set for 11 a.m.

A NOTE TO FANS: At this time, UMBC is allowing limited fans into outdoor events. Attendance is limited to two guests for each student-athlete and coach from both competing teams. Additionally, limited numbers of UMBC students, faculty, and staff that are approved to be on campus are permitted to attend regular-season outdoor events. Total attendance at any event is capped at 250 spectators.
Members of the general public who are not guests of student-athletes or coaches, and who are not members of the UMBC community as outlined above are still not permitted to attend.
All spectators will need to wear a mask at all times and remain socially distanced from others in the venue. Tailgating is prohibited. Spectators will also need to remain in approved spectator areas in order to keep themselves and our student-athletes safe. Please see below for specific information about approved spectator areas at our facilities.
UMBC Stadium (Lacrosse)
Due to safety concerns, the bleachers at UMBC Stadium are closed to the public. Spectators can sit on the hill or stand outside the fence adjacent to the outer lane of the track. Only the main stadium entrance near the UMBC Event Center will be open.
DAWG BITES
The Retrievers fell in the America East conference opener on March 5, 15-8, to the #5 Stony Brook Seawolves. UMBC outscored Stony Brook, 7-6, in the second half but could not overcome the 9-1 deficit that was created in the first period.
Megan Halczuk (2g), Claire Bockstie (2g,1a), and Dymin Gerow (2g) recorded multi-goal games for the second week in a row. Olivia Docal and Courtney Renehan added scores for the Retrievers.
Halczuk is second in the America East in draw controls per game, averaging 7.00 per contest. The sophomore leads the Retrievers with 21 draws on the season, including a career-high nine against Towson in the season opener on February 19.
Lexi Roberts is the third in the conference in saves percentage (.479) and second in saves per game (11.67). The senior has made 35 saves so far this season with a season-high 14 last week against the Seawolves.
About the Opponent: Hartford Hawks
The Hawks started their season on March 4 with a 17-7 loss against the Vermont Catamounts. The two teams kept things close through the first half before Vermont pulled away late in the second period.
Shannon Tuozzo led the Hawks with four points, scoring three goals to go along with one assist. In goal, Kya Risher made 10 saves.
On the season, Suzanna Cantwell is fifth in the conference with 4.00 ground balls per game, while Jessica Harrison and Emily Steele are tied for third with 2.00 caused turnovers.
Catonsville native Meg Decker enters her fourth season at the helm of the Hawks program. Decker, who played collegiately at Navy and Loyola, helped to build the Hartford program back in 2018. Decker was also instrumental in helping Jen O'Brien in starting VCU's women's lacrosse team back in 2016.
THE SERIES
This is just the third time the Retrievers and Hawks will meet, with UMBC holding a 2-0 advantage.
In the 2019 season, UMBC routed Hartford, 16-1. Julia Hatmaker scored four goals in the victory, while three goalkeepers combined to make eight saves in the net.
