BALTIMORE– UMBC men's basketball returns to the friendly confines of Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena to take on UNC Greensboro on Thursday night. The Retrievers are coming off a tough 89-77 loss at Princeton on Monday night. The Tigers used a 12-0 run late to pull away after most of the contest was played within a couple possessions.

Scouting the Retrievers:
- UMBC is coming off an 89-77 loss, their third straight, against Princeton on Monday night. Neither side had more than a two possession lead, but it was the Tigers who put together a late 12-0 run to take control in the win.
- L.J. Owens (Annapolis, Md./Severn School/William & Mary) led four in double figures with 14 points, going 7-7 from the foul line.
- Keondre Kennedy (Atlanta, Ga.) leads the Retrievers scoring at a 14.2 ppg clip. He is shooting 48.6 percent from the floor and 43.2 percent from three.
- Darnell Rogers (Baltimore, Md./Indian Land (SC)/New Mexico JC) is the only other Retriever in double figures at 12.6 ppg. Rogers leads the team dishing out 3.8 apg.
- Yaw Obeng-Mensah (Toronto, Ontario) leads the team on the glass at 5.3 rpg.
Scouting the Spartans:
- UNCG comes to The Peake at 7-4 in the midst of a three-game road swing. The Spartans have dropped the first two against then #13 Tennessee (76-36) and Towson (74-64). UNCG is 5-0 at home this year, but just 1-2 on the road and in neutral site games.
- De'Monte Buckingham leads the Spartans in both scoring and rebounding, averaging 13.6 ppg and 8.0 rpg. He is the lone Spartan in double figures shooting 46.3 percent from the floor and 42.0 percent from three.
- Kobe Langley and Dante Treacy are both averaging 2.8 apg.
All-Time Series:
- This will be the ninth meeting all-time with the Spartans holding a 7-1 advantage in the all-time series.
- The two have not met since the 1996-97 season, and the only Retriever win came in 1995. The Retrievers have not beaten the Spartans in Baltimore.
Milestone Watch:
- Several Retrievers are approaching career milestones in 2021-22. L.J. Owens is approaching the 1,000 point mark, needing just 204 points to achieve the mark. He is also just 7 games away from 100 career games played.
- Darnell Rogers needs 62 points to reach 500 career points.
- Newcomer Ray Salnave needs just 173 points to reach 1,500 career points after scoring 1,266 during his time at Monmouth and DePaul.
Among the Best:
- UMBC is among the league leaders in several categories. The Retrievers are the top scoring team in the America East at 78.2 ppg.
- They are also tops in three point field goals made (93), free throw percentage (80.3), and assists per game (13.5).
- The Retrievers are ninth nationally in free throw percentage, one of nine teams shooting 80 percent or better.
