UMBC women’s basketball rallied back from a 15 point deficit late, but the comeback effort fell just short in a 61-52 loss at Colgate on Saturday

Hamilton, N.Y.-- UMBC women's basketball rallied back from a 15 point deficit late, but the comeback effort fell just short in a 61-52 loss at Colgate on Saturday. The Retrievers were led by Danae Marquez (Fresno, Calif.) with 11 points in her Retriever debut.

  • Colgate responded at the end of the quarter, putting together an 8-0 run to end the quarter with a 14-9 lead.
  • Janee'a Summers (Bound Brook, N.J.) ended the run with a driving layup early in the second quarter.
  • After Colgate retook the lead, Jatarrikah Settle (Frederick, Md./St. Frances/Mount St. Mary's) hit a corner three and a pull up jumper to tie it.
  • There was a furious pace at the end of the half, with Colgate hitting a shot at the buzzer to take a 28-24 lead into the locker room.
  • Summers led the way with six points with Loan-Anh Johnson (Wichita, Kan.) and Settle each scoring five points.
  • The Retrievers shot 50 percent from three in the half.
  • Colgate came out of the break on a 7-0 run, but Keelah Dixon (Boston, Mass.) ended the spurt with a three.
  • Danae Marquez pulled the Retrievers to within six with a basket, but the Raiders held UMBC scoreless over the last 3:43 to take a 44-31 lead into the fourth.
  • Trailing by 15 with three minutes to go, UMBC furiously rallied back to pull within five.
  • However they could not complete the comeback with the Raiders winning 61-52 on Saturday.
