Burlington, Vt.-- Jackson Becher (Hummelstown, Pa.) cut the deficit in half late in the match, but the Retrievers (5-5-1, 1-2-0 AE) dropped a 2-1 decision at Vermont (6-3-1, 1-1-0 AE) on a cold, rainy day. The Catamounts got early goals in each half with the one in the second half proving to be the decider.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Retriever keeper Jalion Gillespie (Laurel, Del.) was tested early, making a big save in the 6th minute to keep it scoreless.

• Rhys Davies (Ammanford, Wales) had the first good chance for UMBC on a free kick, but his strike from 25 yards out was stopped. 

• Vermont would break the draw in the 20th minute with a goal to give them an early 1-0 lead.

• Julian Conze (Telgte, Germany) would have a chance towards the end of the half, but the Catamounts would take a 1-0 lead into the break.

• Vermont struck early in the second half to give them a 2-0 lead.

• Jackson Becher cut the deficit in half with a goal in the 81st minute from 14 yards out for his first goal of the campaign.

• Becher would have a good look late, but his header was stopped as Vermont took the contest 2-1.

NOTABLE:

• Vermont outshot the Retrievers 16-3 in the opening 45 minutes. 

• Gillespie made seven saves in the loss.

• Conze, Jackson Becher, and Ryan Becher (Hummelstown, Pa.) each had two shots for the Retrievers.

The Retrievers will look to bounce back on Wednesday, October 6 when they return home for the first of three straight home contests against Howard. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m.
