Women's Soccer Falls at UNH

Durham, N.H. – Host New Hampshire struck early in both halves and went on to defeat UMBC, 3-0, in America East Conference action at Wildcat Stadium.

The Retrievers fall to 5-6-2 overall and 1-4-0 in America East play.

"These are always tough conditions to come up to," said Head Coach Vanessa Mann. "We found moments in the match to imprint our game plan and for the moments we didn't, we were capitalized on. We will go back and watch film and prepare ourselves for our upcoming match on Thursday."

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • UNH senior forward Francesca Picicci struck one brilliantly from 25 yards out, past the dive of UMBC freshman goalkeeper Abbey Cowles (Colts Neck, N.J.) just five minutes into the game.
  • The Wildcats took the first six shots of the game, but the final eight shots of the half were evenly distributed. Freshman midfielder Izzy Binko (Selbyville, Del.) ripped a shot just over the crossbar in the 39'.
  • The Wildcats again struck early in the second half, as Picicci got behind the UMBC defense off a kick pass and scored in the 47'.
  • UNH finalized the scoring with a goal in the 61'.

NOTABLE

  • Cowles made seven saves in her first outing September 16.

UMBC will play three of the final four America East contests at home, starting with Thursday's home match vs. NJIT (7:00 p.m.)
