Box Score BALTIMORE - The UMBC women's lacrosse team earned their first win of the season on Saturday afternoon, posting an 11-7 victory over the VCU Rams.

STRAIGHT FACTS
The game started off slow on both sides as both teams were scoreless until the 17:21 mark when junior Lily Kennedy (Marriottsville, Md./Marriotts Ridge) scored off a feed from classmate Olivia Docal (Glenwood, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel).
After VCU evened the score at 1-1, Docal and Kennedy both scored to give UMBC a 3-1 advantage at the half.
VCU scored the first three goals of the second half to take a 4-3 lead with 24:32 to play.
Freshman Megan Halczuk (Fawn Grove, Pa.) scored two goals for the Retrievers to give them a 5-4 lead before Jenna McDermott (Westminster, Md./South Carroll) and Kennedy extended the lead to 7-4 at the 16:28 mark.
The Rams cut the deficit to two, 7-5, but the Retrievers used a four-goal run to push their lead out to six, 11-5, with five minutes remaining. Junior Courtney Renehan (Mt Airy, Md./Glenelg/Maryland) scored the first two goals followed by scores from freshmen Claire Bockstie (Forest Hill, Md./Maryvale Preparatory) and Rachel Montgomery (West Friendship, Md./Glenelg).
VCU scored two more goals but were unable to get any closer than the 11-7 final.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
10 - Junior Lexi Roberts (Baldwin, Md./Fallston/Army West Point) followed up her stellar performance in goal on Tuesday night with 10 saves against the Rams.
6 - Kennedy led the team with six points off three goals and three assists.
1 - McDermott and Halczuk each scored their first career goal in the win.

The Retrievers will return to the field on Wednesday, February 19 when they travel up to Mount St. Mary's for a 4 p.m. contest with the Mountaineers.
