Women's Soccer Falls, 3-1, to Temple on Thursday Night

BALTIMORE - The UMBC women's soccer team dropped its first contest of the season in a 3-1 loss to the Temple Owls on Thursday night at Retriever Soccer Park.

STRAIGHT FACTS
The Owls scored twice in the first 25 minutes of the game to take a 2-0 advantage.

Danielle Fuentes (Rockville, Md./Magruder) had two back-to-back looks early in the second half, including one that was saved by the Temple keeper.

Christina Corbi (Medford, N.J.) put the Retrievers on the board and cut the lead to 2-1 in the 61st minute after putting a penalty kick into the right corner of the net.

Temple headed in their third and final goal of the game in the 81st minute off a corner kick. 

FOR THE RECORD
Temple picks up its first win of the year and moves to 1-1-0, while UMBC falls to 0-1-2. 

BY THE NUMBERS
16 - UMBC outshot Temple, 16-10, but the Owls held a slight on goal advantage, 8-7.

6 - Six different Retrievers recorded a shot in the game, led by Corbi with five.

MINDING THE NET
Morgan Basileo made six saves in goal, including four in the second half. Jade Wilkins (Stoney Beach, Md./The Catholic High School) made five saves in the contest.

ONTO THE NEXT ONE
The Retrievers embark on a four-game road swing as they head to Mount St. Mary's on Sunday, September 1 for a 5 p.m. contest.
