Stony Brook, N.Y. – Fourth-seeded UMBC jumped out to an 8-1 halftime lead and cruised by top-seeded and host Stony Brook, 14-8, in the America East Men's Lacrosse Championship semi-finals.

The Retrievers (5-8) will play second-seeded Vermont, a 13-9 victor over UAlbany in the first semi-final. The championship game takes place at Stony Brook's LaValle Stadium at noon on Saturday. The game will be televised by ESPNU.

Junior attackman Brett McIntyre (Calgary, Alberta) led a balanced UMBC offensive with four goals, while sophomore linemate Trevor Patschorke (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) added a pair of goals and three assists.

The title game appearance will be UMBC's first since 2014.

UMBC played a solid first quarter, jumping out to a 3-0 lead on goals by Patschorke (3:48), freshman midfielder Keith Dukes (Bowie, Md./DeMatha) (7:28) and McIntyre (7:28). Stony Brook scored its lone goal of the half with 2:53 to play in the period, but the visitors led, 3-1, after 15 minutes.

The Retrievers then produced a brilliant 5-0 second quarter, with two McIntyre goals and a goal and a helper by Patschorke. Freshman goalkeeper Jack Morton (Ellicott City, Md./Boys Latin) made five saves and forced four of Stony Brook's 11 first half miscues.

In the earlier 14-7 loss at Stony Brook, UMBC did not score in the first half and trailed, 7-0, before McIntyre scored the Retrievers' first goal of the game at the 7:33 mark of the third period.

Each team scored three times in the third quarter and the Retrievers took a 11-4 lead into the final period.

UMBC the game away by the mid-point of the fourth quarter, taking a 14-4 lead with 8:23 remaining. Sophomore midfielder Steven Zichelli (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) scored the 13th goal from 60 yards away against a ten-man SBU ride, and junior attackman Ryan Frawley (Mountain Lakes, N.J.) capped the UMBC onslaught with a behind-the-back score after taking a blind pass from the aforementioned Zichelli.

Zichelli and senior midfielder Josh Jordan (Lunenburg, Mass.) each  recorded a pair of goals and a helper, while Frawley added a goal and two assists.

Morton finished with eight saves as SBU outshot UMBC, 37-30. Junior defender Colin Kasner (Crofton, Md./DeMatha) led all players with six ground balls and four caused turnovers.

UMBC will meet Vermont for the first time in America East Championship competition.
