Washington, D.C. -- Junior Kaly Winslow (Leesburg, Va.) hit walk-off a two-run homer with none out in the bottom of the sixth to lead the UMBC Softball team to an 8-0 run-rule victory over Canisius on Friday morning in Washington D.C. The Retrievers then faced Colonial Classic host George Washington in rain and snow in the afternoon, and fell 11-3 in five innings.

The victory was the 100th win of Head Coach Chris Kuhlmeyer's career.

Imani Dawson went 1-for-1 with two walks and three runs scored, including the other run on Winslow's dinger, to lead UMBC (4-6) in the first game. Courtney Coppersmith (York, Pa.) picked up the first two hits and two RBI of her career and in the circle she allowed just two hits and a walk, while striking out nine over six shutout innings.

Against Canisius, Sierra Pierce (Youngstown, Ohio) and Logan Hawker (Mechanicsville, Va.) each had run scoring hits to put the Retrievers up 2-0 after one. In the second, Coppersmith and Maddie Daigneau (New River, Ariz.) each added RBI hits to double the lead, before the Golden Griffins were finally able to get a clean inning in the third. Coppersmith then had an RBI double in the fourth to make it 5-0, and one inning later, Anna Lonchar (Bristow, Va.) had an RBI double of her own to make 6-0. Dawson then walked to lead-off the bottom of the sixth and Winslow promptly ended the game.

The Retrievers then faced a high-octane George Washington (15-3) in the snow a few hours later. The Colonials jumped out to a 3-0 lead after an inning before a Hawker RBI single scored Lonchar to make it 3-1 in the top of the second. GW would push the lead back to 4-1 in their half of the inning, and both teams went scoreless in the third. Winslow and and Valerie Hammett (Mechanicsville, Md.) each drove in runs in the top of the fourth to cut it to 4-3, but UMBC couldn't tie the game after having two in scoring position with one out. GW then responded with three in the bottom of the fourth, and four in the bottom of the fifth to end the game via run rule.

The Retrievers wrap-up play in the Colonial Classic tomorrow when they face Cornell at 9 a.m., followed by a rematch with Canisius at 11 a.m.
