School Records Fall for UMBC Track and Field at TCNJ Indoor Open

RESULTS

New York, N.Y.-- Trenson Terry set a new school record in the long jump at the TCNJ Indoor Open on Saturday night, the first meet of the 2019-20 season. Terry shattered the mark set by Marc Haskins of 7.11m set back in 2000. Not to be outdone, Jasmine Holland set the school mark in the triple jump at 11.68m, breaking Jean Udo's mark of 11.64m in 2016.

Terry finished with a jump of 7.33m to set the new school mark. He also took seventh in the 60m hurdle finals earlier in the night with a time of 8.73. Andrew Haberman and Maurice Johnson earned a pair of first and second-place finishes respectively. Haberman earned gold in the shot put and weight throw with tosses of 14.07m and 15.83m. Johnson turned in throws of 13.70m and 15.22m in both events. Divinus Muteba rounded out the field athletes with a second-place finish in the high jump at 2.00m.

Taheer Pierce and Brian Nelson led the sprinters on Saturday with a two-four finish in the 300m dash. Pierce finished in 35.28 with Nelson going 35.38. Darius Adams and Shamar Barnes qualified for the 60m dash finals, with Adams taking seventh (7.23) and Barnes finishing eighth (7.28). Michael Arnold took fourth in the 400m (52.22) and Parker Tewell finished fourth in the 600m (1:24.16) to round out the sprinters.

In distance action, Mark Unger earned gold in the mile with a time of 4:17.34. Joel Evans and Michael Schlining went three-six in the 1,000m with times of 2:34.52 and 2:39.91 with Brian Cave finishing fourth in the 5,000m (16:02.27).

Jasmine Holland set a new school record in the triple jump, finishing sixth with a jump of 11.68m breaking Jean Udo's mark of 11.64m set in 2016. Holland also finished third in the long jump at 5.48m. Petronilla Onyebadi finished the long jump in fourth place with a jump of 5.38m. Deja Ravenell also turned in a top ten finish in the event in sixth with a jump of 5.17m. Eleni Zotou rounded out the field athletes with a second-place finish in the weight throw at 16.35m.

Tori Johnson and Melissa Kameka finished two-three in the 400m with times of 59.00 and 59.82 respectively. Pharist O'Neal and Collese Daley turned in third-place finishes in the 60m and 300m with times of 7.88 and 40.38.

A trio of Retrievers finished in the top ten of the 600m dash with Ariella Garcia taking second (1:36.79), Samantha Kameka taking fourth (1:38.66) and Ayanna Johnson finishing in sixth (1:42.09). Catherine Jordan led the distance runners with a fourth-place finish in the 1,000m (3:09.51). The 4x400m relay team rounded out the meet with a first-place finish in 3:55.96.

The Retrievers will have the rest of December off before returning to the track on Saturday, January 11 at the Great Dane Classic.
