Box Score

Washington, D.C.-- UMBC men's basketball suffered an 81-55 loss to Georgetown on Tuesday night at Capital One Arena. Sophomore L.J. Owens (Annapolis, Md./Severn School/William & Mary) led the Retrievers with 16 points on 6-12 shooting.

The Retrievers fall to 6-7 while the Hoyas improve to 8-3 on the year.

Owens led the Retrievers with 16 points, collecting four rebounds on 6-12 shooting. K.J. Jackson (Missouri City, Texas) added ten points and four assists for the Retrievers who shot just 34 percent from the floor.

Omer Yurtseven led the Hoyas with 22 points and 13 rebounds. Jahvon Blair chipped in 15 points with Jamorko Pickett and Qudus Wahab adding 12 and 10 respectively.

The Hoyas got out of the gates early putting together a 14-0 run to open the game and force an early Retriever timeout. K.J. Jackson got the Retrievers on the board with a three seven minutes into the game. That woke up the Retrievers who then got five straight points from L.J. Owens to cut the deficit to just nine, forcing a Georgetown timeout.

Georgetown responded with an 8-0 run to extend their lead. UMBC would fight back, putting together a 7-0 spurt of their own, capped by a Keondre Kennedy (Atlanta, Ga.) three to cut into the Hoya lead. However, the Hoyas took control at the end of the half holding UMBC to one of their last seven to take a 42-24 lead at the break.

Owens led the way with 10 points in the opening half going 4-7 from the field. Kennedy chipped in five points with Brandon Horvath (West River, Md./Southern) adding four and seven rebounds.

Georgetown continued where they left off in the first half pushing the lead to as many as 29 early in the second half. UMBC continued to battle, scoring seven of the next nine points in the game during a four-minute stretch.

However, the Hoyas would hold off the Retrievers, winning 81-55 on Tuesday night.

The Retrievers will travel to George Mason for the final non-conference road game on Saturday, Dec. 21. Tip-off with the Patriots is set for 4 p.m. on MASN and ESPN+.
