The Seawolves would trim the lead to two points on multiple occasions, but the Retrievers answered each time and took the set.
Stony Brook jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second set and held the four point advantage for much of the set until UMBC scored six straight points to take an 18-15 lead it would not relinquish. Stony Brook closed to 23-21, but back-to-back kills from Ferketic put the Retrievers up two sets heading into the intermission.
The third set featured 14 ties and nine lead changes as UMBC jumped out to an early five point lead before the Seawolves countered and eventually got a set point. The Retrievers then answered back and had two match points of their own, but SBU once again answered before scoring the final three points of the set to stay alive in the match.
The fourth set mirrored the second set, as Stony Brook jumped out to an early 5-0 lead before UMBC eventually evened the set. The Seawolves took a 14-12 lead, but the Retrievers countered with a pivotal 5-0 run to take the lead.
