Box Score Baltimore, Md. -- Setter Taylor Dunn (Virginia Beach, Va.) racked up 41 assists in her first start in a month, while Carmen Freeman had 17 kills on .355 hitting as the UMBC Volleyball team swept visiting Binghamton (25-19, 25-21, 25-21) on Sunday afternoon.
UMBC (4-14, 1-4 AE) hit over .300 in every set, finishing with a .311 hitting percentage for the match. It was the Retrievers second sweep of the season and snapped a nine match losing streak with the victory.
Senior Franchesca Reed (Aurora, Colo.) picked up seven kills on .417 hitting with three blocks. Her three block assists gave her 247 for her career, moving her into sole possession of fourth place in the all-time UMBC block assist leaderboard.
The freshman trio of Kamani Conteh (New Castle, Del.), Niki Khoshatefeh (Temecula, Calif.) and Emily Ferketic (Pittsburgh, Pa.) all had big games for the Retrievers. Conteh had 12 kills and five digs, Ferketic had six kills, two blocks and two digs, and Khoshatefeh had six kills (.308 hitting) and a block.
Senior libero Brooke Hayden (Mt.Airy, Md.) was the only player in the match to reach double digit digs, finishing with 13. Freeman added eight digs and a block, while Dunn chipped in with eight digs of her own and added two kills and a block.
UMBC travels to first place (and undefeated in conference play) UAlbany next Friday. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
